Union General EMS – Type I Ambulance Remount

Built for Union General EMS, this Type I ambulance remount gives their existing module a refreshed platform with a focus on updated chassis components, improved ride quality, refreshed exterior systems, and key interior upgrades. The project includes a Type I-to-Type I module remount onto a Ford F-450 chassis, along with new chassis preparation, a Fab Fours Type I grille guard, black rubber mud flaps, a new undercoating application, and updated chassis electrical preparation. The chassis also receives LiquidSpring rear suspension, wheel covers, rear valve extensions, a transferred switch panel, and a backup camera to support improved drivability and day-to-day operation.

The exterior receives a comprehensive refresh designed to preserve the existing module while updating its appearance and functionality. The module is demounted and inspected before being prepared for its new chassis, with new weatherstripping, transferred exterior door handles, a new fuel-fill hose and neck, compartment hardware updates, and a Quickie electric side-entry step with an integrated LED light. Union General also selected a Grille Light Package with Whelen M4 lighting and intersection lights, while the existing exterior lighting is transferred where appropriate. The module will receive a fresh detail and customer-furnished graphics to complete the updated exterior presentation.

The electrical and emergency warning systems are also carefully incorporated into the remount. The project includes transfer of the existing PCP and modular wiring, transfer of the existing Whelen 295HFS siren, and the addition of two Feniex 100-watt speakers. The existing switch panel is transferred and fitted with new switches where needed, while the project also includes a new console configuration and chassis electrical preparation to support the vehicle's equipment and systems.

Inside, Union General's existing module receives a number of targeted updates while retaining equipment that remains suitable for continued service. Interior work includes replacement of worn grip tape at the rear and side entry doors, minor replacement of rusted screws, fasteners and trim, an EVS attendant seat with a 5-point harness and child-safety feature, and transferred custom radio equipment. The project also includes transfer of the existing Frazer-style dome lights and installation of a customer-furnished Stryker Power-LOAD or Performance-LOAD cot retention system, with the system wired and tested for proper operation. The existing HVAC system is also removed and hooked back up as part of the remount process.

The result is a thoughtfully updated Type I ambulance remount that allows Union General EMS to continue utilizing its existing module while investing in the areas that matter most for its next service life-chassis performance, suspension, exterior durability, emergency lighting, electrical systems, patient-compartment seating, cot retention, and overall functionality. The project also includes applicable CAAS certification and final testing, including occupant head-clearance, aspirator system, medical gas, water leak, AC electrical, and low-voltage electrical system testing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can ETA remount an ambulance from another manufacturer?

ETA's remount capabilities are not limited to Frazer units; its inventory and project portfolio show remounts across different ambulance configurations. Whether a particular module can be remounted depends on its construction, condition, chassis compatibility, and specifications, so ETA should evaluate the individual unit before confirming a project.

Should we remount our current ambulance or buy a new ambulance?

The right answer depends on your module's condition, budget, desired configuration, timeline, and long-term fleet plan. For a suitable module, an ETA remount can offer approximately 30%-45% savings and a published turnaround of approximately 30-90 days. Departments needing an entirely new module or significantly different vehicle may be better served by a new ambulance. ETA can help compare the options before you make that decision.

Can ETA help us plan multiple ambulance purchases or remounts?

Yes. ETA's range of new vehicles, remounts, and specialty vehicle solutions allows our team to work with departments on both immediate needs and longer-term fleet planning.
